When David Driskell approached the Greater Huntington Theatre Corporation now more than two years ago about returning the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” to Huntington, non-believers figured the interactive film experience would do well to last six weeks.

However, thanks to the devoted audience and cast members, “RHPS” celebrated its second year at the Cinema Theatre, on Fourth Avenue, in Huntington, WV.

“With the heart, energy and soul of our fans, every week, we are absolutely nothing,” said Driskell whose Downhome Decadence volunteer acting ensemble puts together the weekly shadowcast. “Community support has been invaluable and the Cinema staff, management and upper management have been absolutely amazing.”

Earlier this summer, the theatre management determined that the showing could draw more people with an earlier time slow. Instead of a twelve midnight showing, the flick and preshow were moved into late prime time: 9:45 p.m. on Friday nights.

“It’s kicked in a whole lot of new business and the old audience has followed it to the new time, “ Driskell explained. The showing will continue to be at 9:45 p.m. even when Marshall University’s fall semester starts. In fact, on the first weekend in September Marshall students will be welcomed back from summer break and the full fledged RHPS second anniversary celebration will be held.

“We’re quite excited to see where the future of Rocky goes,” he said.

At the Friday, Aug 1, show, several veterans from the RHPS cast in Point Pleasant took to the improvised staging area, including the former co-cast leader. “I’m personally excited; it’s kind of a homecoming for me,” Driskell said.
